Don’t hide any information from your SEO consultant
It is a problem in the SEO world when liaising with a client (especially in the early stages of their campaign) that a lot of the information required for optimising a site is kept hidden from the SEO specialist.
When questioning new clients if they have ever been involved in black hat SEO, or been banned from Google/SEs for use of techniques such as:
- Keyword stuffing
- Hidden content
- Duplicate domains
- Doorway pages
- Anything else against SE rules and regulations
They normally always reply in the negative. This is very good, however there are those few clients who have been involved in the above who still reply in the negative. Now this is not very good.
Why?
When optimising a site to get it up to Google’s standard, it’s important to know if the site is/has been involved in black-hat techniques. No matter how much work you do on a site to optimise it, it may never increase in rankings due to it being in Google’s list of banned sites.
This will cause many problems. Not only for the SEO consultant but also for the client. The client will probably have their reputation with Google even more damaged and this will cost them further.
When starting your SEO campaign, be sure to give all the information (and more) to you SEO company. This will ultimately help you.
Let me give you an example. If a patient comes to a doctor for help but does not tell the doctor that their back is in pain, the doctor will not know this and probably prescribe paracetamol. However, we know that the illness may increase during this time and it would involve more work to remove it. If the doctor is told from the beginning then less work is needed and results are seen more quickly.
It’s almost always the same in SEO.
