Whilst it’s relatively simple (if time consuming), to develop a large social network, many business owners tell me they find it difficult to successfully market their products or services via social networks. Here’s why I believe this happens & how to fix it! People talk in terms of “increased brand awareness” and “being part of the conversation,” yet many struggle to turn the time they invest in social networking, into bankable results for their business.

The Isle of Wight Branch of The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is holding a free open networking evening at Bay House Hotel, Shanklin on Tuesday 22nd September, starting at 6.30pm.The event is open to all businesses, whether FSB members or not, and will be an opportunity for networking. Some tips to help you navigate your way to a job Searching for a job is becoming an extremely complex process. If you look for advice on the Internet , you will find that you are a no-hoper unless you have LinkedIn and Facebook profiles and know how to tweet with the best. There is some truth in that, particularly in the IT arena. But the tribe of social networking fans and bloggers tends to exaggerate its importance. In traditional firms, HR folks know as little about the Net as you do.

by Jason Kendall Currently in the UK, most companies would be severely hampered if it weren’t for support workers solving problems with both computers and networks, while giving advice to users on a regular basis each week. As we’re all becoming massively more reliant on our PC’s, we additionally become more reliant on the well trained networking professionals, who keep the systems going. Remember: the course itself or a qualification isn’t the end-goal; the job or career that you want is.

This question came from a recent teleseminar attendee, and I love the sub-questions implicit in it. First of all, should you ever write a generic cover letter? The ideal answer is no. You should have a specific position in mind and a specific person to whom to address the letter.
