Write web content with your customers in mind
When you are writing content for your website you should really be writing with your target audience in mind. If you are selling a product or service and your website does not meet customers’ needs, they will almost certainly go somewhere else.
It is important to put yourself in your customers’ shoes when writing blog articles and other content for your website. This may sound fairly obvious, but the number of times I have come across websites which are totally unhelpful for visitors is unbelievable. When searching for a specific product, or looking for directions, you ideally want to find the information using as little effort on your own part as possible. Remember, you are supposed to be encouraging people to use your products or services, not driving them away.
Recently, I was doing a bit of research, looking at gym membership and the various options in my area, but when it came to information on facilities and prices, the level of detail was sparse to say the least. I do realise that you usually need to book an appointment before you are given tailored prices to your level of gym usage, but still, there was nothing to attract me or entice me to pick up the phone and make an appointment.
When it comes to your web content, you should make it as easy as possible for your customers to find exactly what they are looking for right away. You can use your blog as an opportunity to answer any questions they might have, provide news on the latest products, always encouraging discussion and interaction with your site visitors.
Make sure you check and approve any comments you receive for your blog on a regular basis to let customers know it is more than just a sales ploy and you really do want to be as helpful as possible. Answer their queries and provide as much relevant information as you can.
If you follow this advice and put yourself in the shoes of your customer, you will start to make your site a trove of interesting and up to date information, a place where you, as a prospective customer, would want to visit yourself. So, start thinking like a customer today and see the results.
