The Law’s Losing the Texting-While-Driving Fight

Published by under Technology

The many laws enacted by states to ban texting while driving appear to be for naught, suggest findings from a new study by the Highway Loss Data Institute. It found no reductions in crashes after these laws took effect. In fact, the bans were associated with a slight increase in the frequency of auto insurance claims: Crash reports were up
in three of the four states studied for the project after the bans were instituted. Despite the findings, the institute and other highway safety advocates are not ready to abandon a legislative solution to the issue of distracted driving.

In a Computer Worm, a Possible Biblical Clue

Published by under Technology

A fleeting reference in computer code to the Book of Esther may or may not be a sign of an Israeli origin to the Stuxnet worm that is bedeviling Iranian computer systems.

Star Wars cuddlies speak up

Published by under Technology

There is just something about the Star Wars space opera that has had its fair share of fans with each passing generation (so far). Having made its debut a good 30 years ago, we wonder just how much farther can this cash cow be milked? Well, for quite some time more, we suspect. Just check out these Star Wars cuddlies that won’t break the bank at £29.99 each, where you can choose from R2D2, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and Yoda designs. All of them will come with their own characteristic sound effects, where R2 will beep a whole lot, while Darth Vader seems unable to clear his throat (with all the money and power at his disposal, he can’t even find a good specialist), while Chewbacca yaps away like a distressed walking dog with old man Yoda rambling on and on. All it takes is a single squeeze for them to make a sound or phrase, how cool is that?

Membership Sites, Squeeze Pages and Todd Farmer

Published by under Make money online

On this week’s Affiliate Thing, Lisa Picarille welcomed guest co-host Todd Farmer. Shawn Collins was off to Orlando for Affiliate Summit’s Unconference at Sea World, so Todd jumped in.

Affiliate Summit unConference 2010 049

Todd more than held he own as we talked about of a variety of subjects (but thankfully, not Jet’s football) and for the most part we managed to stay on the topic of affiliate marketing with just a few digressions.

Quick note that the first two seconds of the show are snipped off and there is no fancy introduction. Todd is going to record a new one and I didn’t have access to the old one.

But here’s the stripped down version of the show.

Show Notes:

• The winners of Commission Junction’s annual CJYou awards
• Todd Farmer’s new projects
• Todd’s love of membership sites
Creating squeeze pages
• An eConsultancy report on lead generation
• Seasonal affiliate businesses
ShareASale Think Tank
• The Facebook movie
• My yard sale
