GrowSmartBiz Conference in DC Next Week

Published by under Make money online

The 2nd GrowSmartBiz Conference is taking place in Washington D.C. on Friday, November 5, and I wish I could go. But I’m moving to Austin TX the following week, and things are too crazy with all of that.

The GrowSmartBiz Conference is being organized this year by the Washington Business Journal and co-sponsored by Network Solutions LLC and Capital One Financial Corp.

Read more about the event from Shashi Bellamkonda, Network Solutions “Social Media Swami” in the Washington Business Journal.

I met Shashi when he spoke at the Affiliate Summit Social Media event back in 2008, and he knows he stuff when it comes to small business.

Affiliate Summit Social Media 103

Last year, there were over 400 small business owners at this event. Looks like a great opportunity to network and learn.

Samsung Nexus 2 revealed, available on November 8th

Published by under Technology

We only heard rumors of Samsung Nexus since a couple of months ago but we do not know whether it really exists. Now we know for sure that this new smartphone by Samsung will making its public debut on November 8th, coincides with the launch of HTC HD7. From afar it looks similar to Samsung Galaxy S, but when you get a grip on this device you will know right away that you are handling a Samsung Nexus 2.

It’s built of glossy plastic, make it looks shiny in black color. The screen is reported to be the same as 4 inches AMOLED from Galaxy series, kind of concave (at the front) with hard edges and curvy at the back. It seems a lot thinner than Galaxy S.

Google’s supposedly trying to build video chat into Gingerbread, using the same protocol as Google Talk. So it makes sense that the flagship phone for the next year—the one that most Googlers will probably be developing on—comes with a front-facing camera, even if video chat doesn’t quite make it into Gingerbread.

According to Gizmodo, there is no noticeable special features; the processor and memory are the same as used in Galaxy S. Regardless of observations and speculations made by enthusiasts, every question will be answered on November 8th. All you need to do right is wait patiently for the day to come.

How to Deliver An eBook To Your Newsletter Subscribers

Published by under Make money online

questions and answersThis post is part of the Friday Q&A section. If you want to ask a question just send it via the contact form.

Justin asks:

I am setting up an email newsletter, and I want to give a free ebook to my subscribers. How do I go about delivering it once they subscribe, however?

The very first thing you need to do is to upload your ebook into your server. I like to upload it zipped, because if you upload the PDF directly some people might have problem downloading it (i.e., when they click on the link Adobe Acrobat will open instead of the download beginning). Truth be said some people will also have problems unzipping the file, but I find the amount is smaller.

Once you the ebook file is ready to be downloaded you’ll just need to communicate the link to your subscribers, and you can do this in two ways.

The first one is to create a follow-up sequence (might also be called autoresponder sequence, depending on which email marketing solution you are using). With this option you’ll basically create a message that is sent to each subscriber right after he subscribes. You can include a welcome message there, and then put the download link for your ebook.

The second option is to include the download link right on the subscription confirmation page. Most email marketing services allow you to use a custom page, and all subscribers are sent there as soon as they confirm their subscription (usually by clicking on a confirmation link sent to them via email). You would just need to include your welcome message and the download link directly in that custom page.

The second option is useful for people who don’t plan to use an autoresponder, but for most other cases I prefer the first one. It’s a bit more secure, since your download link will not be exposed on a public web page, and it allows you to start building a relationship with your subscribers right way.

Finally, you can also deliver an ebook to RSS subscribers (including people subscribing to your email feed via Feedburner). In this case you’ll need to append the download link at the bottom of your RSS feed, though, and you can do that with the RSS footer plugin.

How will the new Google Local affect PPC?

Published by under General

It is still extremely early days to be making assumptions about the affects the new Google Local will have with paid search results, as changes are being made by the hour on www.google.co.uk.

What has Google changed from a PPC point of view?

Google have now combined the natural lists with the Google local places lists, and inserted the map within the sponsored listing section.

Google Local

Google seem to be testing whether they are going to include the top 3 results as sponsored, or remove them and only run ads down the right hand side. I do not think this is the end product however and believe it will take many weeks for us to see the final page.

I think that we will then start to see a reduction in CTR from the PPC ads as the natural lists are more relevant to the search term, and the ad also appears on the map. More information is now available to the user on the natural listings to the paid listings.

All this means from a paid search perspective is that we’ll have to be more creative with the small amount of characters we currently get given.

Please note that this style of search isn’t applicable to every keyword appended with a location.
